We live in such a technologically driven world where virtually any information is accessible with the push of a button. With technology has comes this sharp increase in fashion blogs that have popped up on the web which I love, but I often think to myself maybe the internet has become so saturated with cookie cutter fashion blogs that it's caused the fashion blogging community to become hard, cold, and just plain fake.
I would like to think that the greater majority of people begin blogging out of a genuine interest in what they write about and a love of communicating with others, but I know that's not necessarily the case for all. It seems like more and more bloggers are sacrificing sincerity and fresh content for a quick ride to top tier blogger status. I am in no way dissing big bloggers like BryanBoy or The Man Repeller. I actually enjoy their blogs and take the time to read them multiple times per week. There's just more of this urge, almost desperation from many to reach that status at all costs even if that means gathering a large following of unengaged "readers".
The sense of community that once made the fashion blogging community unique is now being overshadowed by a lot of fluff. At one point, Independent Fashion Bloggers seemed like this amazing place to connect with others who have my same interest. Now I find myself cringing whenever I visit my inbox because I know that I will have a ridiculous number of messages from bloggers only interested in increasing numbers of readers rather than forming real connections. At what point do we say enough is enough?
I'm thankful for those who still blog for pure enjoyment and not for the sole purpose of gaining "fame" or "popularity". I hope and pray that I never get to the point that I begin neglecting my readers and content. It would be awesome if I could make a career out of blogging, but in the end I have to go back to the basics of why I started Undiscovered Worth in the first place. That reason is to share, connect, and eventually to be able to look at how far I've come on this whole life journey.
I'd really like to know your opinion on this.
Do you think the fashion blogging community has become a colder and less genuine over time?
